Global Employee Portal for a Distributed Tech Workforce

Led design and development of a secure, role-based WordPress progressive web app (PWA) employee portal—enabling global staff to access training, compliance, internal communications, and HR resources from anywhere.

The Strategic Challenge
The client—a B2B tech firm with a globally distributed team—needed a scalable, centralized employee portal to unify internal resources. The portal had to support complex user role logic, integrate with Microsoft 365, offer non-M365 logins, and provide localized HR pages, personalized dashboards, and engagement tools. Off-the-shelf platforms failed to meet security, usability, and cost-efficiency needs.

My Role
I led the entire project from concept to deployment:

  • Defined and selected the full tech stack

  • Created UX/UI design and architecture

  • Built the application and workflows

  • Managed a small development team

  • Trained internal staff and authored documentation

Strategy + Solution
I architected and built a low-cost, high-functionality solution using WordPress + custom code, integrating Microsoft 365 login, role-based access, and a personalized dashboard for every employee. Features included:

  • Secure user logins for both Microsoft and non-M365 users

  • Dynamic dashboards tracking policy acknowledgment, training status, and task assignments

  • Private HR resource pages per office location

  • “Kudos” board for staff-to-staff appreciation

  • Learning center with videos, quizzes, and resource libraries

  • Personalized onboarding pages and action steps per user

  • Admin-managed, front-end content publishing workflow

  • Real-time form routing and individual submission tracking

  • Full accessibility from mobile and desktop

Built as a PWA for app-like performance, the portal includes custom caching, branding, and display mode settings—while performing smoothly on shared hosting.
